The recent times have observed an emergence of theater as an art form, professional discipline and educational tool in our society because of its versatile nature. It has been applied in diverse sectors ranging from education to (community) development achieving multiple goals and objectives. It has empowered communities in creating their unified expression and raising their concerns. It has attracted educationists to employ it in learning spaces to build communicative, creative and problem solving skills. Our young generations have also find deep interest in theater as it facilitates them with medium of expression and provides meaning. The growing media and film industry in Pakistan has also provided a space for creative professionals including trained individuals in the art of acting, theatre making and production.
The course of Theater Making has been designed with an objective to cater the potential and face the creative challenges offered by the new developments. The course develops the skills and ideas in the field of theatre production & performance by engaging participants in creative and technical processes of this art. From acting to improvisation, and from theatre design to live performance, the course exposes participants with all the stages of theatre making whilst bringing in the methodologies and approaches from diverse practices. Most importantly the course contextualizes the whole learning by introducing students to the theatre traditions and movements of this region; both contemporary and folk. By so doing, the course becomes an interesting mix of practice and theory.
At SCE we have state of the art facilities that include a well equipped performing hall with surround sound system and theatre (design) lights. The hall also serves as a perfect acting and dance studio with its comfortable wooden flooring. Communal spaces such as on campus cafeteria also serves the incoming students.
