History And Memory Of Small Town

Generally, historians give more importance to big cities, highlight their role in history and ignore small towns and their contributions to cultural and social activities. Each small town has its own history, its unique character and its special cultural traditions and institutions. Under its cultural milieu, its inhabitants are evolved a different behavior, attitude, and worldly approach in their daily life. One of the important aspects of these towns is that each town identifies in certain professions such as music, wrestling, scholarship, politics and business. Some of these towns have their own special products such as sweets, fruits and handicrafts. These towns also evolve different linguistic expressions which become their hallmark and produced professionals to the neighboring big cities and contribute to their social, political and administrative structure.

‘History & Memory of Small Towns’ is a research initiative of UCA’s People’s History Project to bring to light the active role that the ordinary people of small towns play in shaping the history of their country. It is an endeavor to research, document and popularize the history of marginalized groups who are nameless and history-less. Beginning with history of Wazirabad, the initiative aims to cover all the small towns of Punjab whilst actively collaborating with communities, academics, researchers and intellectuals to generate original research.

UCA is formed with its focus on imparting quality education through its initiatives/activities. The main initiative undertook by UCA is establishment of a university, which will be functional by the end of 2017.
